Cafe & confectionery in the city centre of Vienna

Where the Kärntner Strasse starts, close to St Stephen’s square, we offer traditional and exquisite confectionery products: Sweets, the finest home-made slices, cakes and strudels – all in the supreme quality that is expected of an Imperial & Royal coffee house.

Our main coffee house on the Rathausplatz in central Vienna was so popular that, in November 2017, we opened another cafe at a second location just where the Kärntner Strasse meets a most historic and prestigious address, Weihburggasse 4. There, our guests find the same hospitality and confectionery artistry that they love so much.

Confectionery with a long tradition

While the former “Three Hussars” restaurant in Vienna city centre was being restored, we found – behind the old, suspended ceilings – the original décor of the Café-Konditorei Zwieback. It was a previously virtually unknown project by the Ohmann architects’ practice. For us, that was reason enough to try to preserve, restore and reconstruct the Konditorei Zwieback as far as we possibly could.

The turbulent history of the city and its inhabitants is reflected in the buildings that used to house the Café-Konditorei Zwieback and the “Three Hussars” restaurant. That history has been dominated by the names Zwieback, Zirner, Oerley and Ohmann.

The building epitomises the close relationship between the Viennese coffee-house tradition and the history of Vienna.

Step inside and be carried back to olden days in our Art Nouveau Conditorei!
